All of Scott Memorial Library's hundreds of electronic books are listed in ThomCat, our online
catalog. ThomCat also includes many health-related books that are freely
available on the Internet, such as the well-known Merck Manual of Diagnosis

All subscriptions are accessible directly from campus computers, or via
proxy server, unless otherwise noted. Off-campus access via proxy server
requires a Jefferson Campus Key.

Freely Available Book Collections on the Internet: General Interest
- Bartleby.com (Bartleby)
Dozens of general interest works are freely available, from Thomas
Paine's pamphlet "Common Sense" to a collection of Shakespeare's poetry.
Of special interest are a classic edition of Gray's Anatomy
(20th edition, 1918), and several current reference tools, such as
dictionaries, writing aids and an encyclopedia.

A browsable and searchable index of over 150,000 electronic books, most of which are freely available. Covers iPad, Kindle, Nook, and other portable reader formats.

Text Center (Virginia)
An online archive of thousands of SGML-encoded electronic texts.
- Google Books
A growing catalog of thousands of books, both English and non-English. Books in the public domain may be downloaded. Books under copyright protection may be searched and Google provides information about whether they are available from Scott Memorial Library or local libraries.
- Internet Public Library Books Collection (IPL)
An index to over 20,000 items, including full books, short texts,
and non-English texts. Health and medical topics are included.
- National
Academy Press
"Read more than 2500 books online free" at The National Academies
Press (NAP). The Press publishes the reports issued by the National
Academies of Sciences and Engineering, the Institute of Medicine,
and the National Research Council, as well as over 200 books a year
on a wide range of topics in science, health care and engineering.

On-Line Books Page (Univ. of Pennsylvania)
A part of Penn's Digital Library initiative, this page is a catalog
of thousands of electronic books and documents currently available
via the Internet. Health and medical topics are included.

Free public access to novels and texts in English for reading or downloading.
